Various alternative systems of
medicine have gained great importance in last few decades. Among them,
homeopathy is one of the health-sciences that was surrounded by so many
controversies but kept emerging victorious, thanks to its eternal principles
and scientifically proved medicines. No wonder Master Samuel Hahnemann (Founder
of Homeopathy) leaving his roaring practice of modern medicine, dedicated his
life for Homeopathy.
Then why many people are still
skeptical to use homeopathy in their healing practice? Lack of apt knowledge
and intellectually acquired ability to interpret the facts may be some of the
reasons. Here is an attempt to nullify some of the myths that surround this
beautiful and efficacious science. Let’s see-
(1) Homeopathic medicines are slow to act-
I think this is one of the most
fatal myths that prevent people from approaching this wonderful science. The
homeopathic medicines are selected not just on the basis of diagnosis of a
particular case but on the basis of characteristic signs and symptoms of the
disease. Moreover, it is an individualistic science where exact match between
drug symptoms and disease symptoms need to be done in order to impart cure. So
failure to match the symptoms of the patient with that of the medicine leads to
partial similarity or no-similarity. It obviously leads to slow-effect or
no-effect. Here one must understand that these failures are due to homeopaths
and not homeopathy! When the expert homeopath after carefully evaluating the
patient, applies the law of similars, relief of the symptoms takes place even
within minutes.
(2) Homeopaths do not divulge the name of
medicine they are giving-
Well, homeopaths certainly do not
want to claim that they are doing miracles and their secret medicine will
impart relief. If the patient is educated and can understand the depth of
homeopathic medicines well, homeopaths really do not have problems with telling
the names of medicine they are giving. But homeopathy is not like modern
medicine. It is an individual science that caters problems of people
individually. If two people are suffering from common cold, the remedy for
these two may not be the same. If in case the doctor tells the remedy name and
the patient in utter ignorance about homeopathic principles, gives the same
medicine to his friend or family member for similar-looking symptoms, it may
lead to bad effects or no effects at all. Even in the same patient the set of
symptoms may differ every time he catches similar illness. So, the medicines
may change. That’s why many homeopaths prefer to dispense medicines on their
own and do not prescribe. There is nothing more to it at all!
(3) Upon starting homeopathic treatment, the
patient gets terrible aggravation of his symptoms, be it skin related or
otherwise-
Basically homeopathic medicines
are given on the basis of symptom similarity as we said. Therefore, in the
initial period, slight aggravation of existing symptoms is a good sign, which
indicates that the medicine selected is right. But this temporary rise in
symptoms never prolongs and after this brief period, patient starts feeling
better almost immediately. In many patients, such initial rise of symptoms is
also not found and the patient feels better right from the first dose. If there
is extreme aggravation of any kind, it indicates wrong remedy selection and the
doctor has to verify his history taking and re-evaluate his case.
